This is going to be a review on Divergent by Veronica Roth.
Okay so why did I pick up Divergent? Well the real reason is because I know a lot of people who wanted me to 😛 Everyone is calling it ‘The Next Hunger Games’, but I’ll be honest here. I don’t see that.
The world of Divergent is split into 5 factions:- Candor [Honest], Abnegation [Selfless] Dauntless [Fearless] , Amity [Peaceful] and Erudite [ Crave Knowledge]. Now I don’t know if this is just me but the Potterhead side of my brain thinks in my head that Erudite is like a dupe for Ravenclaw, Amity for Hufflepuff, Dauntless a dupe for Gryffindor.
However there is some differences, for instance: I sort myself into Gryffindor though I call myself a Huffledor/Gryffinpuff as I do possess many Hufflepuff traits. Also the sorting hat on Pottermore sorts me into Gryffindor. However I think I belong in Amity as I don’t really like Dauntless. I find them stupid and just plain.. well stupid. Like seriously. Gryffindor’s are brave and courageous and then you have Dauntless launching themselves off buildings.
Also the only job Dauntless have is guarding the barrier. I mean is that it? That’s how they spend there lives when there not on some crazy suicide mission?!
Amity suited me I think because they are FUN! Probably the only faction that is fun now I think about it! I think that’s what Veronica did wrong. She controlled the way people behaved, and I guess it worked. But will you ever find people who are completely selfless, or people who are willing to blurt out all there secrets just to be honest? I don’t think so. None of the factions ever seem to laugh except Amity – I mean everyone at least cracked a smile once in their life right?
Most of the book was based on the romance between Tris and Four, which I admit was entertaining. It was also sweet, but very predictable.
Additionally, we found out almost nothing about what Divergent is, and that’s what the book was named. However veronica probably [hopefully] will go into more detail in the next book of the series, Insurgent.
On the whole I found Divergent enjoyable and a pleasant read, and I can see why it is on so many people’s top ten favorite lists!I am looking forward to reading Insurgent, definitely.
I give this book *** 3 stars, because it’s not horrible and it’s not rubbish but it makes me want to read on and find out what happens…( But then again I’m a naturally curious person! :p)
I would recommend this to people who have read The Hunger Games although I do not think it’s the NEXT Hunger Games. There are concepts which are vaguely similar.
Anyway, I love you guys my lil candyflosses :* :* Mwah Mwah!! ^-^
